Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Dispatcher – Scrap Metal Operations, is responsible for coordinating the safe, efficient movement of scrap metal materials between customer sites, yards, and downstream processors.

The Team

This role plays a critical part in supporting daily yard operations, dispatching trucks, and ensuring timely pickups and deliveries while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Work Environment

This is a Monday to Friday position working 7am to 4pm and is based out of Edmonton AB.  

A Day in The Life

  • Schedule and dispatch company and third-party trucks for scrap metal pickups and deliveries
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound loads between suppliers, yards, and mills
  • Work closely with scale operators and yard staff to manage truck flow and minimize congestion
  • Communicate real-time updates to drivers regarding routes, site conditions, and safety requirements
  • Monitor load status, weights, and material types to ensure accuracy and proper documentation
  • Prioritize shipments based on commodity demand, pricing, and operational needs
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, bills of lading, and shipment records
  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies
  • Coordinate with buyers, suppliers, and customers regarding scheduling and material readiness
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues such as delays, contamination, rejected loads, or equipment breakdowns
  • Support inventory flow by aligning dispatch activities with yard capacity and processing schedules

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, or related field is an asset
  • 2+ years of dispatch or logistics experience, preferably in scrap metal, recycling, construction, or heavy industry
  • Strong understanding of trucking logistics, weights, and load management
  • Experience working in a yard or industrial environment is preferred
  • Proficiency with dispatch systems, scale software, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations (e.g., hours of service) and safety practices Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong communication skills with drivers, operators, and customers
  • Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
  • Attention to detail, particularly with weights, materials, and documentation
  • Team-oriented mindset with a focus on safety and efficiency
