Heavy Equipment Operator

SECURE is currently recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Metals Recycling team located in Fort McMurray, AB. Prospective individuals will require Equipment Operating experience, preferably with Excavator, Dozer, Loader and Trash Compactor

This position would be well-suited to individuals with Forestry, Construction or Oilfield industry experience that want to be working closer to home and have a set schedule and hours of work.

The successful candidate must adhere to our safety program and work as a contributing member of the site team.

The SECURE Metals & Mining team is a group of experienced professionals dedicated to providing innovative and reliable scrap metal recycling services. With a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction, our team operates across strategically located facilities in Western Canada, offering a full range of services from recycling and clean-up to demolition and surplus scrap metal marketing.

This position is located in Fort McMurray, Alberta and will work a 7 and 7 schedule.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:   

• Operate equipment while adhering to all safe work practices and procedures
• Operator Excavator, Dozer, Loader and Trash Compactor
• Experience with Shears will be considered an asset
• Follow Secures’ operating standards and procedures
• Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks
• Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment. Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and ensure equipment is running properly
• Secure special attachments to equipment
• Operate two-way radios and other communication when required
• Minor repairs to equipment. Report any necessary reports to the supervisor
• Commitment to working safely and following safety protocol
• Abide by all company and customer specific safety procedures.
• Must be able to work varied shift start and finish times, occasional weekends/overtime and occasionally travel away from home location overnight for project-based

The individual in this role will have the following skills: 

Technical

• Experience operating heavy equipment.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy materials.
• Landfill operator experience is preferred
• Strong work ethic and ability to work long days and occasional overnights.
• Fit-for-Work each day. 

Interpersonal

• Ability to communicate effectively and express thoughts and ideas in a clear manner.
• Good listening skills along with ability to accept and follow direction.
• Open and honest with team members as it relates to all aspects of the work.
• Ability to work alone and cover for supervision when required.
• Self-starter with the ability to understand operation objectives and can complete tasks with limited supervision.
