Your Opportunity at SECURE

As our Intermediate Financial Accountant, you will assist with accounting and finance activities for the Metals Recycling division. The successful candidate will be a driven individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

 

This role is based out of Edmonton, Alberta , and is on-site, with a 40-hour per week schedule.

 

The Team

The Intermediate Financial Accountant will join a collaborative and supportive team that values initiative, effective communication and knowledge-sharing. This role involves close interaction with stakeholders across departments, fostering a highly engaging atmosphere where team members support one another to achieve shared financial goals.

The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring adaptability and a proactive approach to handle several complex financial tasks efficiently. This role provides a balance of routine financial activities and special projects, fostering both stability and continuous learning within a structured yet evolving setting.

A Day in The Life

  • Oversee/assist in the daily accounting and finance activities for the division
  • Weekly reconciliation of cash transactions, including bank recs and ATM.
  • Assist in the month-end close activities, including inventory costing and revenue recognition.
  • Assist in the interim and year-end audit – preparing audit schedules, providing information at the auditor’s request, providing explanations in variances, etc.
  • Initiating and implementing process improvements
  • Assist in the monthly reporting and analysis of financial results, including detailed variance review of the month’s operational results, and review/preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Provide support and financial assistance in an efficient and timely manner to various stakeholders
  • Lead and/or support special projects such as IFRS standards implementation, complex accounting issues analysis and internal control process updates
  • Lead and/or support system conversion for operational and accounting systems at the Edmonton location
  • Preparation of ad-hoc financial information

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of business/operational finance experience
  • A CPA designation is preferred but not required; willingness to obtain certification is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS is required
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls framework and testing processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation, analysis, and summarization to support decision-making and reporting needs.
  • Highly self-motivated/assertive and willing to ask questions.

The following are considered assets in this role:

  • Experience in waste management and recycling industry, specifically Metals
  • Experience with ERP system conversions/upgrades
  • Knowledge in the use of D365 and related reporting tools (Solver, Power BI)
  • Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment
