Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Facility Operator will play a crucial role in assisting with the decontamination and disposal of both Non-NORM and NORM waste. This position is responsible for the safe, day-to-day, and customer service–oriented operations of waste treatment. The Operator will actively support standard operating procedures, hazard assessments, safety programs, and environmental protection initiatives. Regular interaction with customers is required, so strong communication skills and a high level of customer service are essential.

This position will be primarily located at the South Grande Prairie NORM Facility but will also provide support at the South Grande Prairie Full-Service Terminal and South Grande Prairie Landfill.

Work Environment

This position will follow a Monday to Friday schedule working 8 hours per day.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operation of the facilities
  • Responsible for unloading oil emulsion, water & vac, and contaminated pipe trucks
  • Loading water and oil trucks while ensuring compliance with all classification requirements in accordance with applicable governance regulations.
  • Participating in waste processing, waste and mud tank operation, shaker & centrifuge operations and solids treating
  • Decontaminating and handling NORM impacted pipe in accordance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Conducting proper cleaning, segregation, and disposal of NORM-impacted materials
  • Conducting treatment of solids on the waste pad
  • Conducting boiler operations, testing and steam system operations
  • Ensuring that all corporate compliance programs are adhered to
  • Responsible for completing work tickets and receipts of NORM contaminated pipe
  • Participates in the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS)
  • Waste plant operation (ensuring solids processing is meeting or exceeding landfill criteria and solids testing)
  • Safe operation of heavy equipment, pumps, scale operation and maintenance
  • Landfill, building, and site housekeeping maintenance
  • Random sample gathering and analysis
  • General labor duties as required
  • Administering scale operations and data entry
  • Conducting ongoing equipment maintenance

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 1-3 years operational experience in waste processing and oil treating or water injection is an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience with equipment and computer systems
  • Specialty training in boilers, treaters, pumps (all), repairs, shaker/centrifuge and loader is considered an asset
  • Proven ability to demonstrate strong methods regarding all processes in the plant, including; safety operations, oil treating & blending, waste processing and water disposal
  • Current and valid safety tickets, including H2S Alive, First Aid Level One C, Confined Space Entry, WHIMS and TDG
  • A strong attention to detail, communication skills with the ability to work long hours in a mentally and physically demanding work environment
  • Must be able to document their work, perform and manage cross shift communication and ensure strategic communication with multiple stakeholders
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate excellent decision-making skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices
  • A valid and acceptable Driver’s license, drivers abstract, and successful completion of Pre-employment testing
