To be eligible for the SECURE Summer Student program, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent residency, or a valid work permit.
  • Complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and Drug test if the role is considered safety-sensitive.
  • Submit a cover letter (answering “Why do you want to work for SECURE?” and “How does this position fit with your career goals?”) and recent transcripts.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

Join SECURE as a Summer Student – Material Handler (Safety Sensitive) in our Specialty Chemicals division in Blackfalds, Alberta. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience in safe material handling, warehouse operations, and chemical product management. This is a great opportunity to learn about industrial operations and safety protocols in a supportive, team-driven environment.

The Team

You’ll work alongside a collaborative and safety-focused team dedicated to maintaining smooth warehouse operations. The group values teamwork, communication, and mentorship—ensuring you have the guidance and training to safely perform your tasks.

Work Environment

This is a safety-sensitive role due to the handling of chemicals and materials. The environment is fast-paced and physically active, involving both indoor and outdoor work. Safety, organization, and teamwork are key to success in this position.

A Day in The Life

During your summer term, your responsibilities will evolve as you build experience and confidence:

Initial training period (first month):

  • Label and stencil packages, drums, and pails.
  • Support warehouse housekeeping and organization.
  • Participate in daily safety (“toolbox”) meetings.

Once trained and certified (as applicable):

  • Assist with the movement of totes, drums, and pails using a forklift (under supervision).
  • Help prepare shipments by palletizing, shrink-wrapping, and banding materials.
  • Support off-loading of bulk solvents while being mentored by experienced team members.
  • Maintain a safe and clean workspace in compliance with SECURE’s safety standards.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, ideally in a technical, trades, or science field.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Comfortable performing physical work and working outdoors.
  • Previous forklift experience or certification is an asset, but not required; training will be provided.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced team members.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
