Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Project Manager – Capital Projects plays a key role in the successful execution of facility and pipeline system expansions, debottlenecking initiatives, and greenfield capital projects. This role leads projects from front-end development through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring alignment with business needs, regulatory requirements, and SECURE’s Specifications and Standards.

 

Working closely with cross-functional internal teams, including Supply Chain, Integrity, Operations, Measurement & Quality, Land, and Regulatory, as well as with external EPCMs, vendors, and contractors, the Project Manager ensures all aspects of project execution are delivered safely, efficiently, and with operational readiness in mind. The role requires a strong multi-disciplinary engineering background including mechanical, process, civil, electrical and instrumentation.

 

The Project Manager is responsible for building collaborative teams and aligning stakeholders around project scope, schedule, budget, and risk. They are expected to apply project management best practices while providing technical leadership and ensuring that completed designs are practical, compliant, and operable by SECURE’s Operations team.

Work Environment

The Project Manager, Capital Projects role is a full-time role based at our Calgary Brookfield office. It follows a Monday to Friday schedule, with a standard 40-hour work week.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the planning and execution of capital projects, including facility and pipeline expansions, debottlenecking, and greenfield developments.
  • Partner with Business Development and other stakeholders to define project scope, budget, and schedule that align with business objectives.
  • Ensure projects are planned, monitored, controlled and closed out in adherence to SECURE’s Project Management Manual
  • Supervise and review the engineering work completed by third-party EPCMs.
  • Support procurement activities by developing RFQs, reviewing technical bids, and coordinating with Supply Chain on contractor and vendor selection.
  • Provide input on equipment selection and installation, including pumps, tanks, piping, instrumentation, control systems, power distribution, MCCs, and VFDs.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities, and implement mitigation or optimization plans.
  • Ensure QA/QC requirements are defined and met throughout design and construction.
  • Coordinate with Operations to ensure a smooth handover of completed projects, including commissioning and startup support.
  • Maintain clear and organized documentation in accordance with SECURE’s document control processes.
  • Travel to project sites in Western Canada as needed to support execution and field coordination.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

The individual in this role will have:

  • Eng. with 10+ years’ of progressive experience in engineering and project management.
  • Experience managing projects, from front end engineering through construction and commissioning.
  • Strong working knowledge of facility and pipeline design with the ability to read and support development of engineering drawings including Plot Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Single Line Drawings, Shutdown Keys and Control narratives.
  • Experience with larger HP VFDs, MCCs, switch gear, and control systems.
  • Experience using SCADA systems to support operations, troubleshoot and optimize process facilities and pipeline systems.
  • Strong understanding of applicable design codes and standard industry practices as they apply to the oil & gas industry.
  • Strong writing skills to be able to create clear, accurate, and concise project scope documents for internal and external resources.
  • Self-starter who can work independently.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet project timelines.
  • Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgement, influence decision making and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Creativity in developing and evaluating alternative solutions to realize business opportunities.
  • Highly motivated with attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • Hold a valid class 5 drivers license.
