Program Eligibility:

  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, or valid work permit).

Your Opportunity at SECURE

In this role, the Summer Student will contribute to both day-to-day HR operations and strategic initiatives, with a particular focus on enhancing the employee experience. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with the People & Culture team and other corporate functions, building valuable skills and insight into how People & Culture drives business outcomes. The People & Culture and Strategic Partnering teams work closely with all functional groups within SECURE, fostering a strong, positive culture.

This position is based in the Calgary Brookfield Place office on a full-time, Monday to Friday schedule.

The Team

You’ll join a collaborative and supportive People & Culture team that values partnership, innovation, and building strong connections across the business. Working alongside passionate professionals, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment where your contributions make an impact on both employees and leaders.

A Day in The Life

  • Support HR Coordinator and HR Business Partners to ensure all documents related to the employee life cycle are submitted accurately and filed.
  • Perform general administrative duties such as filing, copying, and managing emails.
  • Support the Strategic Partnering team to deliver on HR-related projects such as employee engagement, continuous process improvement, and retention initiatives.
  • Organize and schedule HR events and meetings.
  • Assist with managing the employee life-cycle process by ensuring proper information flows between departments such as Payroll, IT Service Desk, and Office Services.
  • Collaborate closely with all HR Centers of Excellence (Total Rewards, Payroll, Benefits, HRIS, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Engagement) to ensure alignment and integration across People & Culture initiatives.
  • Conduct exit interviews and support the collection, analysis, and reporting of exit interview survey data to identify trends and insights.
  • Map existing HR processes tied to the employee experience (employee life cycle changes, offboarding, intranet support, etc.), document workflows, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the HR intranet landing page and communications, ensuring consistency of branding, tone, and accessibility for employees.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Business or Arts, with legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Builds positive working relationships across the business; approachable, personable, and able to connect with employees at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to adapt style to effectively engage diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrates analytical thinking and a proactive approach to solving problems.
  • Thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments; adaptable to shifting priorities with ease.
  • Collaborative team player who also takes ownership and works independently when needed.
  • Results-oriented, motivated, and proactive in seeking opportunities to add value.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a consistent ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough, delivering high-quality, accurate work.
  • Professional and confident in representing the People & Culture team when engaging with employees and leaders.
  • Maintains confidentiality, handling sensitive employee information with discretion, integrity, and adherence to HR standards.
