Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Team Lead, Project Controls is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing SECURE’s project controls program, ensuring effective cost, schedule, and performance management across SECURE’s portfolio of projects. This role provides both technical and people leadership by guiding project controls practices, coaching team members, and driving process improvements.


The Team Lead manages a team of project controls professionals and is accountable for developing scalable processes that align with SECURE’s governance frameworks. They will partner closely with Project Managers, Construction, Finance, Supply Chain, and Senior Leadership to establish consistent reporting, governance, and controls across Capital, Operations, Landfill and Optimization projects.

Work Environment

The Team Lead, Projects Control position is a full-time role based at our Calgary Brookfield office. It follows a Monday to Friday schedule, with a standard 40-hour work week.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Partner with Project Managers, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure alignment of budgets, forecasts, and execution strategies.
  • Facilitate month end activities with Project Managers ensuring accurate accrual, forecasting, and variance reporting across active projects.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to revise and issue project-related purchase orders as required, maintaining alignment with budgets, forecasts, change management processes, and project reporting requirements.
  • Lead the development and optimization of project control processes, templates, and reporting tools, driving efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Champion the effective use of ERP (Microsoft D365 F&O) and related systems for project tracking and reporting.
  • Lead the ownership, development, and governance of all project management tools, including D365 SOPs, AFE approval templates and reporting frameworks, ensuring alignment with corporate standards such as the Project Management Manual (PMM) and Cost Control Framework.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of project controls professionals.
  • Foster autonomy within the team by delegating tasks effectively and mentoring team members to increase capacity for strategic contributions.
  • Establish team priorities and align them with SECURE’s strategic project goals and objectives.
  • Support integration of business intelligence tools (Power BI, Power Apps, Excel) to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead the adoption of digital solutions to improve efficiency and visibility across project controls functions.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

The individual in this role will have:

 

  • 5–10 years of progressive experience in project controls, cost control, or project management support, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in oilfield, energy, or industrial projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project control methodologies, forecasting, earned value management, and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, Power BI, Power Apps, Outlook).
  • Advanced ERP experience; Microsoft D365 F&O preferred.
  • Familiarity with project cost systems, vendor management tools, and invoice processing (e.g., OpenInvoice).
  • Strong communication skills, able to influence and collaborate across levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to build, mentor, and scale high-performing teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, AACE (Cost Control), or other related designations are considered strong assets.
