Your Opportunity at SECURE

This role provides hands-on exposure to all aspects of waste operations at the Richmond Transfer Station and Sludge Pad. The position involves operating vacuum trucks, folding cranes, and flat deck units to transport hazardous waste. You’ll also work on-site handling containerized waste, including identifying, consolidating, and packaging materials for treatment and disposal. In addition, you’ll travel to client sites to perform field testing, complete documentation, and advise customers on safe waste handling practices.

Work Environment

This position entails a standard 40-hour workweek from Monday to Friday, with occasional on-call duties. This role may require flexibility in shifts, extended hours, weekend work, and occasional travel as dictated by business needs. Candidates must be prepared to work in challenging work environments including working outdoors in all weather conditions.

 

A Day in The Life

  • Abide by all SECURE’s Waste Management procedures and customer site-specific safety protocols.
  • Operate vacuum trucks, folding crane units, and flat deck vehicles to transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Ensure all waste handling and transport complies with TDG and NSC regulations, including labeling and documentation.
  • Sample, identify, and package hazardous waste for treatment and disposal.
  • Conduct on-site field testing at client sites and provide guidance on proper waste handling practices.
  • Perform waste consolidation and container handling at the Richmond Transfer Station and Sludge Pad.
  • Communicate effectively with Dispatch to meet scheduling and customer needs.
  • Participate in Tailgate meetings, safety assessments, and comply with all SECURE and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Operate small equipment such as forklifts and pumps as needed.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support, including incident response.
  • Provide additional support at the Transfer Station and Sludge Pad based on business needs

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Class 3 license is a requirement
  • Class 1 license is considered an asset
  • 2–3 years of experience in a related field or industry
  • Post-Secondary Science education related to: Chemistry is considered an asset
  • Previous experience in a related work environment where TDG or WHMIS is an essential part of the job
  • Technical and regulatory knowledge related to the waste services industry, with the ability to ensure compliance of waste transport rules, regulatory requirements and TDG regulations
  • Competent at completing documents on a daily basis including safety paperwork, waste manifests, and bills of lading
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, occasional unplanned overtime hours, challenging work site environments and demanding work loads
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks on a daily basis including lifting/lowering/pushing/pulling containers and other heavy objects, along with the ability to spend a major portion of each day on your feet
  • Proficient with a wide range of computer programs including MS Office, and an aptitude for learning additional industry specific programs on computer and mobile devices.
  • Good time management skills and ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
