Your Opportunity at SECURE

We are currently looking for an experienced Knuckle Boom Operator/Driver to join our Richmond Waste Services team. In this role, you will operate a flat deck truck with a folding crane, knuckle boom, and Hiab.

Work Environment

This position has a Monday-Friday schedule which consists of overtime and weekends as needed.  

A Day in The Life

  • Safely operate various units, including but not limited to folding cranes, knuckle booms, and Hiab equipment, in diverse weather conditions and challenging worksite environments.
  • Abide by all SECURE’s Waste Management procedures and customer site-specific safety protocols.
  • Comply with all Government NSC Regulations.
  • Ensure all waste containers are labeled in accordance with TDG regulations:
    • Drums – stick-on labels
    • Bags – label placed in the pocket
    • Bins – wire-tied label
  • Complete all labels fully, including: shipping name, generator name, approval number, TDG class, UN number, packing group number, load number, drum number, etc.
  • Inspect all waste materials to ensure compliance with manifest, recycle docket, and bill of lading descriptions.
  • Be a team player and participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Communicate effectively with Dispatch on a daily basis to meet customer needs and maximize SECURE’s operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials complies with TDG regulations.
  • Verify that all equipment and loads being transported meet weight and dimension requirements for each jurisdiction traveled.
  • Work well in a team environment, including participation in an on-call rotation for off-hours and weekends.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake and standard transmission endorsements
  • Knuckle Boom Crane Ticketed
  • Minimum of 3 years of driving experience in the transportation industry or demonstrated competency
  • Mountain highway driving and tire chain-up experience
  • Experience and proven ability to utilize tire chains
  • Strong understanding of Hours of Service (HOS) and driving regulations
  • Knowledge of TDG requirements, including load securement practices (strapping and load planning) and the ability to read and complete government TDG shipping manifests.
  • Comfortable securing and hauling hazardous waste materials regulated by Transport Canada on a flat deck truck
  • Cross-Canada hauling experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to learn and use shipping and HOS phone applications
  • Fit-for-work each day
