At SECURE, we focus on opportunities for growth and improvement for our employees, our customers, our partners, and the communities we operate in. The Chemical Operator Trainee works within our Specialty Chemicals division to prepare, blend, package or load chemicals.  The successful candidate will use pumps, hoses, forklifts, blenders, mixers, SDS’ and appropriate PPE (including respirators) to safely blend chemicals as directed by our Plant Foreman. This role is based out of Blackfalds, Alberta.

A Day in The Life

  • Attend morning “tool box” meeting to be aware of daily activities
  • Ensure that blender, hoses, pumps are clean and are in good working order
  • Obtain process order and ensure that all materials are in stock for the blend
  • Batch operator is responsible for bringing in required raw materials
  • Accurately follow blending instruction on process order and complete blend
  • Obtain retain sample and send to QC to ensure it meets spec
  • Label containers and dispense product
  • Ensure viscous materials are in ovens for the next days blends
  • Keep work area clean and tidy
  • Assist with loading and unloading empty drums when required
  • Assist in general tidying of the blend room/warehouse area
  • Assist in spill cleanup when required
  • On Call (Weekend and Evening) responsibilities as required
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or Plant Foreman
  • Understand and comply with all safety and environmental requirements and company policies.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with established safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Play an active role in improving the working environment to ensure the safety and health of all employees.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Attention to detail
  • TDG, WHMIS 2015, First Aid Certifications
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Physically fit, able to lift 50 pounds, and able to work on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner and also in a team environment
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions.

The following are considered assets in this role:

  • 1-2 years of directly related chemical handling experience specifically with pumps and hoses
  • Experience blending, transferring or other handling of TDG or Dangerous chemicals.
  • Maintenance and computer skills are considered an asset.
  • Oil and Gas chemical knowledge is considered an asset
